Photoshoot

A few days ago my family went to the beach to take a family photograph for our Christmas card. This not only produced a suitable family portrait, but an entire photo shoot of my younger sister. These are a few of my favorite shots that I was able to capture. There are more that I really enjoy posted on Flickr.com.

The first photograph is of my sister jumping towards the camera. Since this was taken in the afternoon the colors inland give off a warmer feel compared to the ocean. On the personal side, this captures a signature "Meghan move," but what's even more exciting is that it froze her in mid-air and reminds me of a dinosaur as well.

The second photo is a supermodel shot. The serious look straight into the viewer's eye produces a powerful connection to the subject. I also feel that she could be a Twilight character in this photograph, which is one of many hobbies we share - reading (especially the Twilight books).

The third photograph looks like my sister is balancing on one arm, but really she is doing a cartwheel and I caught her in action. I also enjoy the never-ending feel of the sky and the way in which it reflects in the water.

In the fourth photograph I focused on capturing the movement of the water both in mid-air and as the waves roll in towards the shore. My sister is merely a background blur even though she's kicking the top of the water.

This last picture is definitely my favorite family portrait. It captures who we truly are as a family unit. Silly, lively, loving, chaotic, fun, and even stubborn (which is best shown with Moose, our puppy who refuses to pose for pictures). I love my family!

One feature that is demonstrated throughout all these pictures is movement. None of these pictures are posed, instead they merely capture an instant in time.

When I was editing and enhancing each photograph I focused on accenting different features giving each photo it's own individual feel. Some photos I focused on the colors in the shirts and the subject itself, and others I focused on aspects such as the water or sky. I find it boring when all the photos radiate the same effects - over time it produces a "cookie-cutter" feel that the photographer always portrays.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe holiday, and
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
